E.T. Canadian Club presents talk on David ThompsonThe Eastern Townships Canadian Club/ Club Canadien des Cantons de l’Est invites members (men and women) and the public to attend the upcoming presentation about David Thompson, the renowned explorer and surveyor, on Wed., Oct. 5 at 6:30 PM at Hôtel Le Président, 3535 King West in Sherbrooke.

Barbara Verity and Gilles Péloquin will present their research based on David Thompson’s 1834 journals written while exploring and surveying in the Eastern Townships. Thompson, considered by many as North America’s greatest land geographer, surveyed and mapped one fifth of the continent as a North West Company fur-trader and explorer.


Barbara Verity was born in Montreal and moved to the Eastern Townships to attend Bishop’s University. She has since adopted the region as her home. She has written and published two guidebooks on outdoor activities in the Townships. Gilles Péloquin, originally of Winnipeg, Manitoba, moved to the Eastern Townships in the 1970’s. Gilles has had a lengthy career in management and owned and operated the Pilsen Restaurant in North Hatley from 1988 until his retirement.  Their new book, 'Even the Owl is Not Heard' will be available.
