Sercovie Inc Receives Funding

DecouvrezSHERBROOKE – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, has announced that Sercovie Inc. has been awarded financial assistance to expand and renovate its facilities.

“Our Government is pleased to support infrastructure projects across the country as we have done for the Sercovie community centre”, said Minister Lebel, “The Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund will benefit citizens immediately by creating safe and accessible community infrastructure facilities for years to come.”

Sercovie is the acronym for Service communautaire à la vie. This intergenerational centre plays an important role in the Sherbrooke community, providing services to its 3,400 patrons, most of whom are seniors. Similar to others, this project involves expanding and upgrading the building which dates back to 1884.

This non-refundable contribution of $351,250 in financial assistance has been awarded through the Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).The CIIF has a nationwide budget of $150 million over two years, including $31.2 million to be invested in Quebec where the Agency is responsible for its administration. The Fund aims to support the rehabilitation and improvement, including expansion, of existing community infrastructure.

The 2nd call for such proposals is currently open; interested organizations may submit their proposals until April 30, 2013.
