Old Stone House Museum - winterBROWNINGTON: Apple Grafting & Pruning – Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Michael Phillips, author of The Apple Grower, A Guide for the Organic Orchardist, will be back for his popular grafting and pruning course. He will bring hearty root stocks and scions from his apple trees for the morning workshop. Students are also encouraged to bring scions from their favorite ancient trees. Students will learn to make at least two grafted trees to take home. In the afternoon, students will learn pruning techniques on the Museum’s trees along with tree health and supply sources. (Class cost $50 or $40 for Museum members) Please register early, class fills up quickly. Bring a bag lunch and dress for the outdoors.

Beginning Blacksmithing “Make a Fireplace Poker” Saturday, April 20, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wyatt Moseley, will introduce basic forge techniques, safety, equipment options, lighting and maintaining a fire and timing. Beginners will complete a fireplace poker as they practice half-faced hammer blows, drawing out, twisting, leaf work and a simple weld. (cost is $75 or $65 for Museum members, plus a $25 materials fee) Class size is limited. Please register by April 16. Bring a lunch. After taking this course, students may come to our monthly “Hammer-ins” to practice their skills.

Basket making class “Make Grandma’s Basket” – Wednesday, May 8, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Carolyn Starr, will be teaching basic basket making skills to beginners at the Hall House. Students will make “Grandma’s Basket”. (Cost is $25 or $20 for Museum members, plus a $25 materials fee) Please register by Wednesday, May 1 for this popular class. Bring a lunch.

Knitting Class – “2 at a time Socks” – May 18 & 25, 1 to 4 p.m.

Diana Foster, will teach how to knit a pair of socks, 2 at a time, on a 40” circular needle. This class will meet on two consecutive Saturday afternoons at the Hall House. (Class cost is $25 or $20 for Museum members. Plus a $28 materials fee which includes, a beautiful 138 hard cover book, 40” needle and two colorful balls of super wash yarn. Please register by Monday, May 13.

Spinners Circle – 3rd Wednesdays – 12 to 4 p.m.

Quilter’s Circle – 2nd and 4th Wednesday’s – 1 to 3 p.m.
